Energy Savings for Cooling Control in Supermarkets

Energy Savings for Cooling Control in Supermarkets
The subject of energy savings has become a fundamental aspect in the field of commercial refrigeration.
This is true above all for supermarket chains, as the reduction of energy wastage represents the most effective way to contain costs and achieve better competitiveness.
Furthermore, the adoption of techniques and methods aimed at saving energy in the installation also means embracing a socially responsible policy in relation to all the stakeholders that interact with the supermarket: shareholders, workers, customers, suppliers, the environment and society.
There is increasing awareness that the consumer wants to make informed and critical purchases, and, if possible, influence through their purchasing decisions and its system of values, the supply of goods that can be purchased on the market. In this sense, the ratio between perceived price/perceived quality is no longer the dominant element that guides the individual during the product selection process.
The consumer starts to acquire information about the reputation of the company that supplies the goods being purchased, and obviously rewards those companies at operate in a socially responsible manner.
Having stated this, ESSELUNGA Supermercati asked its trusted installer CREA S.p.A. and CAREL S.p.A., leader in electronic control solutions, to develop a pilot supermarket with innovative technical solutions, capable of achieving tangible energy savings compared to the traditional and still commonly-used technology.
The big news involves the fact that Esselunga required a test to demonstrate, in a working installation, the effectiveness of such new technologies.
The main advantages resulting from the use of electronic technology are: savings in the energy consumed by the installation estimated at over 20% per year, better control of low temperature utilities, better operating conditions for the compressors, performance that lasts over time, better conservation of frozen foods and ice cream, less wear on the mechanical parts of the compressors and less deterioration of the lubrication oil, repeatability of the control and energy consumption data over time.
