CAREL valves have passed compatibility tests with HFO refrigerants

Based on tests performed in the Honeywell lab*, CAREL valves have been shown to provide complete compatibility for operation with hydrofluoro-olefin refrigerants, more commonly known as HFOs, with specific reference to types R1234yf and R1234ze.
HFO refrigerants are today universally recognised as the next generation of refrigerants, due to their features of high environmental compatibility, competitive costs and very high energy efficiency.

Initially developed to respond to the specifications of European directive 2006/40/EC, which required vehicle air-conditioners to use refrigerants with GWP<150, they have gradually been taken up with good results in HVAC applications, and are now considered the most promising refrigerants for all high-efficiency solutions with a low environmental impact.

The validation tests conducted on CAREL valves showed how all of the mechanical components are fully chemical compatible, while the sealing mechanisms - the most critical components in preventing refrigerant leaks in the circuit (ensuring tightness to the surrounding environment - obtained excellent results in terms of dimensional stability. This aspect is particularly important on the CAREL ExV valves, as exceptional tightness on closing is one of the determining and distinctive features of these products (tightness against internal leaks).

‘The positive results obtained in the compatibility tests confirm the value of the work we have done and underline the accuracy of the research we have conducted into high-efficiency solutions’, stated Giovanni Righetto, Product Manager EEV & Drivers. ‘For CAREL, valves are one of the sectors we are investing most in with regard to exploring and developing new technologies aimed at reducing the energy consumption of refrigerating systems and limiting CO2 emissions. Compatibility with these new refrigerants validates the direction CAREL has undertaken in the research and marketing of higher-efficiency solutions.’
